and he will give you everything you need."
Matthew 6:33 NLT
In addition I already have a stack of books just waiting to be opened and devoured, one of which I’ve already completed. It is a non-fiction book in which the author shares many handy-hints on how to get the most out of life. All of her suggestions have value, but one stood out that I haven’t been able to forget. It’s her thoughts about the time we have been given and how we spend it, especially in regard to the time we spend with those we love. She made the point that often we give people our “left-over” time instead of our best time, which she refers to as our “spendy" time. It's "spendy" because it costs us something, the best time of our day. Instead of fitting people into whatever time is left over in our schedule, she suggests we order our lives in such a way as to give others our best time—serving them, listening to them and just being with them.
This is a great lesson and perhaps one on which we all need to work. But carrying it one step further, I couldn’t help but apply this to the time we spend with God, getting to know Him, serving Him and simply loving on Him. Knowing I should spend time praying and reading God’s Word, I remember the days when I would do so after everything else was done. Usually that was at the end of the day when I was tired and exhausted, and often I’d fall asleep before I was finished. But I’ve since learned that God deserves my best time, and so I now set aside some of my “spendy” time just for Him, and I can’t begin to tell you what a difference it has made. Not only have I fallen deeper in love with Him as I’ve gotten to know Him better and better, but His love for me is something I feel and enjoy every single day.
What about you? Is your time with God “left-over” or “spendy?” I hope it's the latter. It's dividends are unbelievable!
Love and Blessings,
