"I am the LORD your God,...who , directs you in the way you should go."
Isaiah 48:17
Isaiah 48:17
Not long ago a friend and I were browsing in a bookstore when we got caught up in reading signs that were hung here-and-there throughout the store. You would have thought we were in a sign shop, not a bookstore. There were signs of all sizes on which were painted single words, phrases, quotes and even Bible verses. Most every message a person could want to display was there. That is, all except the one I was looking for.
You see, the week before, in our women’s Bible Study we had come to the story of Cyrus, a Gentile king whose right hand God took hold of, calling this king to be His anointed one. Thus, as he followed God, his life became a sacred journey, a life lived for the purposes of God. As I read this story I couldn’t help but realize that God wants that for you and me as well. For, as Christians, God has called us to follow Him and as we do so, we too are set apart for His sacred use. Simply put, the path we travel through life becomes sacred. Whatever we do, wherever we go, whatever we have to face, becomes a sacred journey. Everything has a purpose. God will allow nothing in our lives to be wasted. Some way, somehow God will use our lives for His glory and our fulfillment.
And so that day in the bookstore I was looking for a sign upon which was simply printed the word sacred. I wanted a reminder that my life is a sacred journey. But since there was no such sign, as we left the store, I quickly forgot about it. But then, to my surprise, a few weeks later my friend presented me with a gift-wrapped package, inside of which was a sign with the word sacred! She had engaged another friend to make it, and that loving gift now sits proudly on a shelf in my office, reminding me every day that as I follow God, my life is a sacred journey.
Yours can be sacred too!
Blessings and love,
