"The secret of the LORD is with those who fear Him,
and He will show them His covenant."

and He will show them His covenant."
Psalm 25:14 NKJV
Everyone loves a secret! There’s just something special about being in the know. I felt it the other day as I walked into a small Christmas gathering with some of my friends. I knew something that the others did not, and that secret was itching to get out. Oh, how I wanted to divulge it to my friends, but I knew that secret was not mine to tell. Fortunately, even though it was ready to burst from my mouth, I kept quiet. We’ve probably all felt that way at one time or another, for it’s such a confidence builder to know that we’ve been entrusted with something that not everyone knows.
This came to mind as my husband and I have been reading through the book of Luke in preparation for Christmas. Each morning in our cozy little corner of the world we are reading aloud a chapter from this book of the Bible, each one corresponding to the day of the month. The plan is that on Christmas Eve we will have read through the entire book—all 24 chapters—and when we awake on Christmas morning, we will be ready to fully celebrate with a fresh new look at what Christmas is all about.
That’s what got me to thinking about secrets, for Luke is full of them. Oh, we all know the story of Jesus, but some know far more about Him than others. That’s not because Jesus wants to withhold secrets about Himself, but it’s because He chooses to reveal the deeper ones only to those who truly want to know Him. He’s just like us, you see. For, we too save the deep secrets about ourselves for those who are truly interested.
So this Christmas, try something new. Read the story of Jesus—perhaps for the first time or perhaps for the umpteenth time—but read it. And as you do so, savor every word. Discover something you have never seen before. You’ll be amazed at the secrets Jesus is just waiting to share with you.
Jesus understands. Everyone loves a secret.
Merry Christmas!

P.S. Unlike our secrets, those of Jesus are ours to tell. I’d love to hear some of yours. Perhaps in a future blog I’ll share some of mine.
