"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path."
Psalm 119:105
Psalm 119:105
This has been a difficult few days, for one morning last week my glasses broke. Without warning, when I put them on, one of the temples snapped. Almost immediately I felt panic rise within me for the break was in a place that can't be mended. I knew I didn't have an extra pair, and I feel helpless without glasses, even naked, for I've worn them since I was a mere toddler and that's a long time!
Needless to say, that morning was nerve-wracking, but after I calmed down a bit, I found a pair of 99 Cent Store magnifying glasses that enable me to read, and I also have prescription sunglasses that allow me to drive. Things got even better when I called my doctor's office and was able to get an appointment for the next day. So I've now had a vision test, glasses are ordered and hopefully my life will be back to normal soon.
In the meantime, even though things are a bit blurry, and I'm fighting dizziness, things could be worse, so I'm grateful. I've also been reminded through this experience that when things go awry there's always a lesson to be learned. This time it's a fresh appreciation for what is even more important than physical eyesight. That's spiritual eyesight. This is what is promised to the one who reads and studies the Bible, taking it seriously. For the Bible allows us to see life clearly, from where it comes and where it's going. It enables us to see what really matters and how to live in such a way that invites God's blessing, nor just for today, but for eternity.
Without the Bible, life is like I am without my glasses. For, whether we realize it or not, without the Bible, there's a blurriness in front of our eyes. We simply cannot see clearly.
I don't know about you, but I don't want to live that way. I've had enough of it this week.
Blessings and love,
Judy Rose Grubaugh
P.S. The photo is of my very first pair of glasses, prescribed when I was 18 months of age!
