free from restriction, to the comfort of your table
laden with choice food."

Job 36:16
Recently I got to thinking about getting older. At first, the very thought depressed me, for after all, our culture caters to the young. But while mulling it over in my mind for a couple of days, I thought of a number of things that are really good about this stage of life. But the one that stuck out above the others is the ability to look back at those unmistakable times when God nudged my heart in such a way that it changed me.
One such time occurred the year I turned 30. At the time my family was living in the old silver mining town of Leadville, high in the Colorado Mountains. My children were young, and I knew we should be in church so we attended a small Baptist church just up the hill from our home. I wasn’t involved. I was merely an attendee. But one Sunday I heard there was going to be a mother/daughter banquet and I decided to go. I even got busy and made matching dresses for my daughter and me.
After arriving at the banquet and enjoying a good meal, I found myself captivated as the women of that church put on a drama presentation of the classic booklet entitled, “My Heart, Christ’s Home, ” in which the author, Robert Munger, likened the heart to a home. He portrayed the idea that just as a home has many rooms, so does the heart. And Jesus, as a resident of the heart, wants access to every room.
That night, as several women acted out that story, they moved around the room, stopping at spots that had been decorated like rooms in a home. Each one was impressive, but when they came to the living room, I knew God was speaking directly to me! The picture painted for us was of Jesus waiting in the living rooms of our hearts desiring to spend time with us through the pages of His Word, the Bible.
When I arrived that night, little did I know how thirsty I was for God, but when I heard the truth that Jesus wants to meet with me and waits for me, I determined not to keep Him waiting. And I didn’t. As I began to join Him every morning, I learned that the Bible is so much more than a book about God, it’s a book through which God speaks to us--personally! Ever since then, rarely has there been a day when Jesus has not had a message just for me.
Yes, that night something changed within me! But more than that, over the years as I’ve met with Him, Jesus has continued to change me, and one of the great blessings of being older is that I can now look back and see how much!
Jesus wants to change you too. Don’t keep Him waiting!
