[Jesus] went up on a mountainside by himself to pray."
Matthew 14:23
At the time I was hungering for more of God so I took her suggestion. Oh, I didn’t have a green velvet chair, but I did the next best thing; I picked out a chair in my own living room and made it my go-to place. Every morning I would meet Him there, offering my prayers to Him and listening to Him by reading the Bible. And little by little my relationship with God began to grow. I began to trust Him more, to follow Him more closely and allow Him access to every part of me. Putting it simply, having that special time with God in that special place every day has changed me.
That’s been many years ago, but I’ve never forgotten that author’s challenge, so a couple weeks ago when I was invited to share about my prayer life with my church family, I included this story. As I did so, I wondered about its effect on those who heard me. Would it mean anything to them? But even more than that, I wondered what God thought.
Well, after having lunch with my husband, and while sitting in my chair collecting my thoughts would you believe I received a text with the above photo? You see, on their way home, a family from my church had come upon a van with a chair strapped on top. Their young son, who apparently saw it first, yelled from the back seat, “Hey mom, there is someone’s green velvet chair.” To the parents it was confirmation that their son had been listening in church. To me, it was confirmation that my message was on track.
That’s my God! Oh, we can’t see Him with our eyes, but every now and then He shows Himself through something we can see. This time, it was in a green velvet chair strapped to the top of a van!
God bless each of you,
