" 'They will be mine,' says the LORD Almighty,
'In the day when I make up my treasured possession.' "

Recently I attended a lovely bridal shower at my church. It was one of those picture perfect afternoons when women came dressed in summer finery and bearing gifts ready to honor a young bride. From the beautifully set tables, to the gorgeous decorations, to the friendly faces, everything set the mood for a delightful afternoon. A pianist played softly in the background as we enjoyed a delicious lunch while sharing our lives with one another. We listened as the bride’s favorite song was sung and as both the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom shared memories of their children’s growing-up-years. Everything about the shower was delightful!
Even so, there was more. I first began to see it as the teen-age twin daughters of one of the hostesses warmly greeted me at the door. These girls were absolutely stunning in their white dresses as they welcomed the guests with warm smiles while graciously accepting the gifts. Then, as they caught my attention throughout the afternoon, I couldn’t help but think how blessed are these girls. For you see, when they were babies, they were adopted. They were chosen. As thoughts of what could have been to what their life actually is spun around in my mind, suddenly I realized that even though it is true, they are immensely blessed, the greatest blessing belongs to their parents. For they have two daughters to love and enjoy, two beautiful young ladies into whom they can pour their lives and who pour back into theirs. Yes, they are the blessed ones!
As I drove home, these thoughts continued to capture my mind as I realized I’m just like these girls, for I’ve been adopted and chosen by God. I too, am blessed beyond measure. But just then, I had an “ah-ha” moment as I realized afresh that just like the parents of these twins, God is also blessed. He is blessed because I am His child—one He is free to love and enjoy and into whom He pours His very own life. What a concept! What a truth!
It’s one thing you see, to know we are blessed because God chose us, but it’s quite another to grasp the truth that God is also blessed—for we chose Him!
That takes my breath away!
