present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:6-7
I was in the midst of some mundane household tasks, which usually I don't mind. But that day my heart was heavy, anxious about something that was troubling me, and the last thing I wanted to do was laundry and change bed sheets. But I knew I had to get things done so I kept at it, and as I worked, suddenly a lesson I had just learned in my Bible study came to mind: Look for God in the ordinary mundane things of life. And so I began thinking of Him and what came to mind was His instruction not to be anxious about anything. Instead, He says, present our requests to Him, thanking Him for what He will do. If we do that, He promises to give us peace that is beyond our understanding. So, while I continued to work, that's what I did and true to His word, it wasn't long before my burden began to lift. In its stead, the promised peace arrived. And before I knew it, my heart began to sing. It was then that this old song came to mind.
Oh, I've never learned to actually whistle. But that day I discovered there's more than one way to do it. The heart is pretty good at whistling, if we take God at His word.
Whistle while you work!
