of the knowledge of God's glory displayed in the face of Christ.
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this
all-surpassing power is from God and not from us."
2 Corinthians 4:6-7
I was tidying up my office when that tin box caught my eye and suddenly without warning memories of my childhood came flooding back. That box, you see, had been in my parents' home for as long as I could remember. But I never knew what was inside; only that it held treasures my parents did not want to lose. But last summer I finally found out. There was an envelope marked Judy’s first haircut. Sure enough, inside was a lock of my curly blond hair. There was a photo of me as a first grader wishing my dad a Merry Christmas (see photo below). There was a program of a water ballet show of which I was a participant in high school. There were similar things from my siblings' childhoods. There were memories galore. No wonder my parents called it a treasure box.
But that recent afternoon, upon seeing that treasure box, I was reminded of an even greater treasure, one I had just recently read about. It's the treasure of knowing God. This treasure, however, is not contained in a box. It lives in the human heart through faith in Jesus Christ. In fact, God likens people to jars of clay into which He deposits this treasure. He will put it into the heart of anyone who will believe. But unlike the treasures in my dad’s box, many of which went into the trash, this treasure will never be tossed away. It will endure forever.
I’m not sure how long I’ll keep my dad’s treasure box, but for now I’ll keep it on the shelf as a reminder not only of the treasures it once held, but more importantly as a reminder of the most valuable treasure of all, that of knowing God.
The treasure that lives within my heart.
Love and Blessings,

"If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." Romans 10:9-10
