Joshua 2:21
And before helping them escape down a rope out a window of her home, she told those men that her people were melting in fear because of the Israelites' pending destruction of their city. She then asked that her life be spared, and so they reached an agreement whereby she would help them escape, and they would spare her life. All she had to do was identify herself by hanging a scarlet cord out her window so when the Israelites came, they would protect Rahab and her family. And that's exactly what they did.
This true-life story came to mind in light of holy week, this time of year when we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus, the time when He shed His blood to pay for the forgiveness of our sin, thereby protecting us for eternity. All we have to do is what Rahab did, identify ourselves as one who believes by hanging the scarlet cord in the window of our lives.
Today, many of our people are like the people of Jericho, for they are melting in fear. The difference is our enemy is not an army we can see, but an unseen virus on the move to destroy us. But as with Rahab, protection is available for all who put their faith in the one true God of heaven.
Several years ago this story became so meaningful to me that I purchased a red cord that now hangs in our home as a continual reminder that we have identified ourselves with Jesus. As such, He is our protector, not just for today, but for eternity.
No matter what happens.
Have a blessed holy week,
