for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous."
Psalm 112:4
She and I were sitting at the dining room table having a cup of tea looking through the window watching the rain and the dark heavy clouds overhead. To describe the weather as gloomy is an understatement. We hadn’t seen the sun for days, and at the moment I didn’t hide the dreariness that was creeping inside of me, and I didn’t hesitate to complain about it to my mom.
Then, after I told her how depressing it made me feel, she said: “But look at the lantern.” You see, there was a lantern hanging from the eaves on the porch. It had a candle inside, which by the way, wasn’t even lit. But my mom saw something I didn’t see. She saw light in the darkness. As soon as the words were out of her mouth, I understood, and I picked up my phone and snapped a photo of it through the glass. When I looked at it, I was amazed at how the lantern stood out against the backdrop of the darkness outside.
It reminded me of the above verse and the fact that even when times are dark, when life is difficult, there is always a light for those who walk with God. That light is Jesus and He is always shining brightly for anyone who cares to look.
My mom taught me a lesson that day, one that I will never forget!
Blessings to all,
