as your protective shade."
Psalm 121:5 NLT
Now the warmth of the sun is a wonderful thing and we can’t live without it, but when it bears down upon us in full strength, it becomes very uncomfortable and so that afternoon we kept moving our chairs in order to stay in the shade. But before long, a man who worked at the restaurant appeared with a bunch of umbrellas, placing them one-by-one along the western edge of the patio, opening them and positioning the tops almost vertically, providing a shield from the sun which was quickly moving downward toward the western horizon. As he did so, no longer did we have to keep moving our chairs in order to stay in the shade, for we were behind that shield of umbrellas.
As we finished our meal while enjoying the comfort of constant shade, it made me think of the fact that God is always standing beside me with His arms full of umbrellas, so to speak, providing a shield of protection from the heartaches, difficulties and trials of life—even from the sin that relentlessly tries to creep into my life and entangle me. You see, God is ready, willing and able to protect us from the penetrating heat of such things, if we are willing to get behind the umbrella of His protection.
Join me in the shade, will you?
Love and blessings to all,
