Jesus - John 6:37b
But it was not to be. Even though, as a parent of a flight attendant, I’ve flown stand-by many times and there has only been one other time when a seat wasn’t available, Thursday was one of those days. Everyone who had a ticket showed up and at the last minute other stand-by passengers came along. So, the empty seats were quickly filled with people who had more clout than I. Even though I began as number one on the stand-by list, by the time the plane took off, my name had slipped to number 13 and just before my number came up, the plane was full.
You see, as names are added to the list, they’re put in the order of a person’s importance to the airline, as it should be. I fully understand that, but even so, as I watched one person after another being called and given a ticket, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed and even a little slighted. I also felt the pain of my daughter's disappointment as she took off without me on board. Thus, I began to feel the weight of it all, which feeling stayed with me as I climbed into my own bed that night.
But would you believe the next morning, while still wallowing in my disappointment, suddenly God gently reminded me that there’s one place where I will never be pushed to the bottom of the list and turned away. In fact, it's the very most important place I'll ever be. It's with Him. In fact, He welcomes everyone. He has no list of who is more important than another. With Him, there is no pecking order. Everyone has value and all are welcome!
As I’ve heard so many times, the ground is indeed level at the foot of the cross.
Blessings and love,
