"Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.
Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies.
I have more insight than all my teachers, for I mediate on your statutes."
Psalm 119:97-99

Psalm 119:97-99
Some years ago, late one afternoon, I was returning home on a flight from Oregon after a visit with my parents. Even then, flights were usually crowded, however on that particular day, the plane was almost empty. Actually, there were only a handful of people aboard which made for a very comfortable flight with plenty of room to stretch out and relax. Needless to say, once we were airborne, it didn’t take long for the flight attendants to serve drinks and the customary bag of pretzels, and soon everyone was settled in for a very quiet and uneventful two-hour flight.
But suddenly the quiet was shattered when a passenger sitting near the middle of the plane livened things up a bit by yelling out for another bag of pretzels. Quickly, the flight attendant flew into action, grabbing a big plastic bag full of little bags of pretzels—enough for the whole plane had it been full. Then she marched up the aisle to the man who asked for them, reached in and grabbed a whole handful of little bags, putting them on the man’s tray. I guess he looked extra hungry because she then pulled out another handful, saying: “Here, have some more. Have some nibbles for later.” After that, she proceeded to walk up and down the aisle offering everyone a handful, laughing and calling out as she went: “Nibbles for later anyone? Nibbles for later?”
Well, I declined her offer knowing that I had my own nibble for later stuffed away in my carry-on bag in the form of a banana I had taken from my mom’s fruit bowl. But as I watched that flight attendant marching up and down the aisle enjoying herself and hearing the laughter of the few passengers aboard, suddenly I felt that familiar nudge of God in my heart letting me know He had something to say. This time it was a gentle reminder deep within my heart that just as we need a nibble of physical food for later, so we need a nibble of spiritual food for later. You see, the words of God recorded in the Bible offer all kinds of things we need throughout the day, things like comfort, encouragement, strength, and even wisdom But to be there when we need them, the spiritual food of God's Word must be tucked away in our hearts and minds ready to be put into action when needed.
I've never forgotten the lesson I learned that day from a flight attendant acting silly on a plane while serving only a few passengers. Ever since then, each morning when I read God's word, I try always to take a thought or two with me as a nibble for later. Who knows when I will need it?
Just as there is nothing like a nibble of food tucked away for when we're hungry, there's nothing quite like a nibble of God's truth tucked away, ready and available when it's needed.
Nibbles for later, anyone?
