He is a mighty savior. He will rejoice over you with great gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears."
Zephaniah 3:17 NLT
My first visit was with dear Mary, who has just recently moved to assisted living, a beautiful place with wonderful care, but as she said, “It’s not home.” However, she didn’t dwell on that, but quickly turned the conversation to Jesus, the One in whom her hope lies. The joy He brings her today and the joy awaiting her in heaven was obvious on her face and in her voice, and instead of me encouraging her, it was the other way around, and when it was time to leave, I walked away with a new spring in my step and a renewed song in my heart.
My next visit was with my sick friend, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. But I found the same thing. Even though she was confined to bed and can no longer take care of herself, the joy on her face was evident and our conversation quickly turned to Jesus and His presence with her as she takes this journey. Her desire is not for herself, but for those she loves. She wants them to know Jesus too. That is what is important to her. Her focus is clearly on the One she’s soon to meet—Jesus!
As I drove home, I could hardly contain the unexpected spirit of joy within me that I caught from my friends who unknowingly blessed me beyond words—friends who live in the presence of Jesus. He’s everything to them, and I found myself with a renewed desire to live that way right now, even though I may have more than just a few steps before I get to heaven.
What a day! What Women! Women who could give me nothing, yet gave me everything!
Blessings and love,
