Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and
humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
Matthew 11:28-30
Back when I was just a little girl, my family had recently made a cross-country move to Southern California, and shortly thereafter Billy Graham’s first crusade took place in a tent in nearby Los Angeles. I don’t remember if my parents actually attended one of the meetings, but I well remember the discussions in our home that something amazing was happening in that tent. Years later I was able to attend one of the crusades, and over the years Billy Graham’s books found their way into our home. Even recently—just prior to my mother’s death at 100 years of age—I was able to read to her one of his latest books, Nearing Home, bringing her comfort in her last days on earth. For these reasons and many more, I was more than eager to visit the library honoring this man.
However, was I in for a surprise! As we arrived, I expected to learn more than ever about this man, and that did occur, however, as I wound my way through the many rooms, the man Billy Graham faded into the distance and instead Jesus was given center stage. Every exhibit honored my Savior, and as a result, the tour was one of the most worshipful experiences ever, and as I walked away I knew what had made this man so successful. It was because he always gave center stage to the Savior, exalting the glorious name of Jesus instead of his own. Even, in his library.
Oh, that we would all do the same!
Love and blessings,
