Isaiah 40:8
But it’s not just the destination that made the few days away so enjoyable. The drive itself was spectacular. Everything was beautiful, the waves of the ocean, the hills that looked like green velvet, even the sand covered with driftwood was a sight to behold. But the one thing that topped them all was the yellow flowers that covered the hillsides. Never have I seen such beauty on those hills. It was like someone had dipped a brush in yellow paint and brushed it in waves across them.
As I watched the beauty of those waves of yellow through the window of the car, the thought occurred to me that they would soon fade, that they would not be there forever. And just then, God brought to mind a verse in the Bible I had recently read wherein He said that flowers will fade. But then, He contrasted fading flowers with what will never fade away, His word the Bible. For it will endure forever. And right there, traveling down the highway in the midst of such beauty, He reminded me how blessed I am to have access to that one thing—His very word. What a privilege to be able to read it, study it and pass it onto others.
I’ve heard that every home should have a pop of yellow, for it’s the color of joy. Perhaps that’s why God spread yellow flowers across the California hills—not merely to bring joy for the moment—but to remind people like you and me, that unlike flowers, His word is eternal. And in it, we will find the true source of joy: God Himself.
Love and blessings,
