who created all the lights in the heavens.
He never changes or casts a shifting shadow."
James 1:17
Our conversation brought to mind something else that has changed that I had been thinking about all week, and that is, reading electronically instead of reading from an actual book. This came to mind as I was reading from a Bible I’ve had for many years. Now, there are times when I do read the Bible on my phone or online, but that day it just felt so good to hold it in my hands, turning the pages, reading notes I’d written in the margins and the dates I put them there. There was something about seeing the names of people I love jotted down in my own handwriting beside a verse I’d prayed for that one, not to mention hearing the rustling of its pages as I turned them.
As I left my Bible that day, it brought to mind how fast the world is changing. We don’t talk on the phone much anymore. Instead, we text. We don’t hand-write letters or notes anymore. Instead, we e-mail. And many of the skills I learned when I was young are now obsolete. And the list goes on. But the more I thought about it, the more I remembered, there is one thing in life that will never change, and that is, who God is. He Himself said: “I the LORD do not change.” Malachi 3:6 He’s the same God today He was in the beginning and will be forever.
Photos, books, communication, even shadows—those things will continue to change. But what really matters never will!
Blessings and love,
