whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”
Galatians 6:8
Even though the traffic on our side of the freeway was slowed for a while, it quickly picked up, and we continued driving at a good pace toward home. However, the accident could not quickly be forgotten, for the oncoming traffic was stopped dead in its tracks—mile after mile! We were amazed how far it was backed up, and as we sped along, I felt a little selfish and began to have genuine compassion for the drivers on the other side, for they had no clue what was ahead nor how long they would be tied up in such congestion. There was no way to get through or around it.
Watching all of this unfold before my eyes, something began to unfold in my heart as well, for I began to think about those people who had entered the on-ramp of the freeway that morning expecting to arrive at their destination as planned. But far from what they anticipated, the reality was that they would be stuck on the freeway for hours, unable to move. I doubt not one of them expected that, and I couldn’t help but think that that is exactly how many people live their lives today. We get up in the morning expecting everything to go as planned, as if there is no tomorrow. But the reality is that at any moment, life could come to a screeching halt. You see, the Bible clearly states that Jesus is coming, and those who know Him will go with Him to spend eternity in the presence of God. But those who don’t, will be stopped dead in their tracks, eternally separated from God with no way to get through or around it. If we want to avoid that traffic jam, we must put our faith in Jesus, for He said: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6
Unlike driving on the freeway, we can know what's ahead. Be prepared!
