whom you have from God, and you are not your own?"
1 Corinthians 6:19 NKJV
As we walked around the island, one thing that didn’t escape our attention was the beautiful houses, many of which had inviting patios with comfy looking furniture—perfect spots for summer reading, relaxing and visiting. In fact, it was difficult not to be envious of those who live in such luxurious surroundings. We even found ourselves pointing out which homes we liked the best, and later that evening as I was readying myself for bed, I found myself re-living the day with those beautiful homes lingering in my mind.
Then, the next morning, when I opened my Bible to spend time alone with God, would you believe that the passage that caught my attention is all about King David’s plans for building God’s temple? He said this house of God was to be magnificent in the sight of all people. Before I could catch my breath, those houses on Balboa Island flooded back into my mind. But, just as quickly, God brought my thoughts back into focus. For, He reminded me that I am a temple. For, His Spirit lives within those of us who claim Jesus as our Savior. We are His temple! I then found myself wondering, what kind of temple do I present to the world around me? Is it beautiful? Is my life inviting to others? Is it a place where people can come to relax and visit? Do I dare even ask the question: Is it magnificent? Is yours?
I wonder.
