and the darkness has not overcome it."
John 1:5
It’s been many years since those fun and exciting days of my childhood and its even been a long time since we've enjoyed fireworks with our own children, but recently fireworks have been exploding all around us in our neighborhood. All we have to do is go outside and watch the most amazing fireworks display right from our own front yard! And as my husband says, it doesn’t cost us a penny! This year the show started early, even before dark. And yes, they were fun to watch even then, but as the sky darkened, oh my!
As I watched the gorgeous colors of light explode against the backdrop of the dark sky I couldn’t help but be reminded of how blessed we are to live in a free country and be able to celebrate that independence. Yet, I also couldn’t ignore the fact that at this time in history our country seems so dark and far removed from how it began. But then I remembered what God says: Darkness will not overcome the light. The light of Jesus, you see, will always outshine the darkness for those who are willing to look, no matter how dark things may be, whether in our country or in our own lives.
For just as the true beauty of fireworks is best seen in darkness, so is the true beauty of Jesus best seen in dark places.
Love and blessings,
